Seller: shoptrove (116) 100%, Location: Orpington, Kent, Ships to: Americas, Europe, Asia, AU, Item: 223235835672 As part of a major house declutter I am selling a framed original page/print from the Polychronicon originally by Ranulphus Higden & William Caxton, - Treveris 1527 imprint, which I purchased from an antique prints shop called Frontispiece in Canary Wharf (London) roughly 20 years ago. I used to work in Canary Wharf and Frontispiece were/are a reputable seller of antique prints, & I often bought prints from them (like maps of London from the 18th & 19th Century) and bought three of the last four remaining leaf/pages from the Polycronicon they were selling. The Certificate of Ownership on the back of the frame states: John Barrett Associates A.M. & CCertificate of AuthenticityThe Polycronicon Collection 1527 This is to certify number 32 from the Polycronicon Collection (from the William Van Mildert Ashburnham collection) is the only one bearing that number from a limited collection of 380. Signed John Barrett and (I can't read the second signature). "The Polychronicon (Universal History) was first printed by William Caxton in 1482 and circulated widely. It was written by Benedictine monks and is actually more legend than fact. But it was Caxton's most ambitious printing project and the longest book in terms of page count. The Polychronicon was written by Ranulph Higden (d. 1364) who was a monk of the Benedictine abbey of St. Werburg, Chester. His 'Polychronicon' is a universal history, based on earlier writers, but extended down to his own lifetime. As it was the most complete such work available in the 14th century, it enjoyed considerable popularity, being translated into English in the late 14th century, and printed by William Caxton in the late 15th century. Three early translations of the Polychronicon exist. The first was made by John of Trevisa, chaplain to Lord Berkeley, in 1387, and was printed by William Caxton around 1482; the second by an anonymous writer, was written between 1432 and 1450; the third , based on Trevisa's version, with the addition of an eighth book, was prepared by Caxton. These versions are specially valuable as illustrating the change of the English language during the period they cover". This is a fantastic opportunity to purchase a genuine piece of history at a fantastic price. I cannot find any Polycronicon/Polychronicon pages like this for sale elsewhere on eBay. However, I would advise that you do research this yourself before considering purchasing this piece as I am not a literature/antiques expert. As mentioned earlier Frontispiece are very reputable sellers and I've no reason to assume that the print & the COA are not genuine. Postage: Because of the assumed value of the framed page, I will only send this by Royal Mail Tracked 24/signed for/International tracked. I don't live or work anywhere near a post office so I wont be able to post this until the first Saturday after the listing ends though I will try to ship this sooner if possible. I will not ship to Eastern Europe or to Eastern European/Russian buyers without 100% positive feedback. I'm really sorry but I've had problems with everything I've sold to these countries. INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS: Please note postage the the US and Canada, and Asia will be higher so please ask me for a quote. Condition: In immaculate/unblemished condition for an original piece presumed printed around 1527 (published by Peter Treveris) and coming from from the Polycronicon Collection (from the William Van Mildert Ashburnham collection). Certificate of Authenticy included, Material: Paper, Subject: Reference, Date of Publication: 1527 imprint, published by Peter Treveris, Language: Old English, Author: Ranulphus Higden
